SAS International metal products meet design demand for Abu Dhabi Financial Centre new VIP South Car Park

5th September 2011

SAS International has supplied over 32,000m2 of bespoke, mega panels for the new VIP car park at the Abu Dhabi Financial Centre, Sowwah Island, Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Financial Centre (ADFC) car parks are located north and south of the site providing around 5,200 parking places. Due to Abu Dhabi’s blazing summer temperatures, architects Gensler were keen to provide an appropriate air conditioned climate for visiting VIPs to the ADFC facility.

A suspended metal ceiling was chosen to enclose the required air conditioning and MEP services with a mix of plain and perforated metal panels. Combining performance with aesthetics, the service panels allow air return whilst the differing sized perforations (39% open area in the central area of the tile and 25% open area towards the edges) provide a gradient finish.

Naturally in a VIP environment the interior must be kept in an exceptional condition. A washable surface, such as metal, allows for ease of cleaning for the ceiling to remain in impeccable order.

Gensler required a large modular panel to give a proportionate scale relative to the large single 16,000m² floor plate for the two car parks. SAS International was actively involved in the design of these high quality metalwork solutions, working closely with the architect to manufacture the oversized metal System 330 ceiling panels to meet specification demands.

In addition, the manufacturer was able to provide a suitable handling, packaging and shipping solution for the 1.5 metre square panels because of its extensive experience in producing offsite modular systems.

ADFC is a part of the Sowwah Island project by Mubadala. The development consists of an International Stock Exchange, high rise office towers and substantial retail space. The ADFC office towers are Grade A buildings meeting highest quality of finishing. The towers are energy efficient and achieved LEED Gold pre-certification. The centre represents the first stage development of the Sowwah Island program, an exclusive combination of world-class buildings offering hotels, restaurants, shops and offices. The Sowwah Island will be linked to Abu Dhabi main city by stunning bridges and future railway development.

Having operated in the Middle East for over thirty years, SAS International has supplied many projects in the region including the new Aldar HQ; and The Souk, Central Market, Abu Dhabi. SAS International has offices in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
